New York Giants Downed by Washington Commanders as Time Expires

By Stephen Ur –

The New York Giants were in Landover, MD to take on their NFC East rival in the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon. The Giants were coming off a 28-6 loss against the Minnesota Vikings in their home opener.

Washington got on the board first as Austin Seibert kicked a 27-yard field goal. The Giants would score the game’s first touchdown as Devin Singletary scored from seven yards out. The extra point was missed, and the Giants held a 6-3 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Two more field goals from Seibert gave Washington a 9-6 lead with 1:50 left in the first half. With just eight seconds left, Daniel Jones would find rookie Malik Nabers for a four-yard touchdown and the Giants led 12-9 at halftime after a two-point attempt was intercepted.

Both teams exchanged field goals and the game was tied at 18 in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Sibert would kick his seventh successful field goal, a 30-yarder as time expired, to give the Commanders a 21-18 win over their division rival.

The Giants, now 0-2, will look for their first win in Week 3 as they go back on the road next week to take on the Cleveland Browns. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
