D-Backs Win Against the Marlins, 3-1

By Zachary McMahon-

The Miami Marlins hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second game of the series at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL on Tuesday night. The D-Backs won the series opener after a stellar six RBI performance by Adrian Del Castillo, 9-6.

The D-Backs designated right hander Gavin Hollowell for assignment, and optioned Blaze Alexander to Reno, and signed second baseman Luis Guillorme to a major league contract.

Edward Cabrera tossed six innings for the Marlins, allowing four hits, three earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 ⅓ innings, allowing six hits, one earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Corbin Carroll led off with a single, and then came home on a RBI single by Joc Pederson in the first inning, and then Carroll homered in the fifth inning as the D-Backs led 2-0 over the Marlins. Carroll reached in his last 30 starts, which is the longest since Eric Bynes reached in 31 straight starts from May 5-June 8, 2007, and it’s the seventh longest streak in D-Backs history. He has scored in his last 12 starts.

The Marlins scored what would be their only run of the game on a RBI single by Xavier Edwards in the bottom of the fifth, and then Loudres Gurriel Jr. padded the lead in the sixth as the D-Backs led 3-1.

Declan Cronin pitched the seventh inning as he retired Eugenio Suarez, Kevin Newman, and Ivan Herrera on groundouts, as he now had 58.2 innings without a home run to start the season, which is the third longest innings streak at any point in a season, the second is Kyle Barraclough who pitched 60.2 innings without allowing a home run from May 15 to Sept. 16, 2016.

Jonah Bride hit a double and walked, as he has reached base in 19 out of his last 20 games.

Pederson walked in the sixth inning as he has walked in four consecutive road games and eight out of the last 11, and has recorded an RBI in the last five games.
