NFL Preseason Week 2 Saturday Recap

By Zachary McMahon and Stephen Ur –

Buffalo Bills 9, Pittsburgh Steelers 3

Josh Allen didn’t play this preseason game in Pittsburgh, but the Bills still were able to fend off the Steelers in Pittsburgh as Russell Wilson and Justin Fields led them to one scoring drive the entire game. The defense was key in this game as they forced two turnover on downs in the red zone.

Miami Dolphins 13, Washington Commanders 6

Washington had a couple chances to end the game in a tie, but on a fourth down inside the red zone, a Trace McSorely pass fell incomplete and Miami held on for their second win of the preseason. Dolphins quarterback Tua Taugovailoa, who signed a four-year extension this off-season, went 5 for 5 for 61 yards and a touchdown in his lone drive played.

New York Jets 15, Carolina Panthers 12

The Jets didn’t get into the end zone at all in Charlotte, but they didn’t need to as four field goals from Austin Seibert and a fifth from Greg Zuerlein were enough to secure the win. The Panthers did score the game’s lone touchdown, but it came as time expired with them already down 15-6, so it was too little, too late.

Baltimore Ravens 13, Atlanta Falcons 12

Neither Michael Penix Jr. nor Kirk Cousins played for the Falcons as veteran backup Taylor Heinicke started at quarterback for the Falcons. The Ravens had a passing touchdown from Josh Johnson and undrafted rookie Emory Jones when they lead for most of the game, but with 36 seconds left in the game, Jase McClellan ran it in for a touchdown as the Falcons cut the deficit to one point, and with the Falcons trying to win the game, McClellan was stopped for the two-point conversion as the Ravens narrowly squeeze by the Falcons, 13-12.

Houston Texans 28, New York Giants 10

Daniel Jones had his first NFL action since tearing his ACL last season, although it wasn’t his best showing as he got intercepted twice as he played the entire first half of Saturday’s game against the Texans. C.J. Stroud played the first quarter as he threw for 88 yards. Devin Singletary, who is vying for the running back spot after Saquon Barkley went to the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, scored the only touchdown for the Giants in the second quarter, as the Giants lost 28-10.

Jacksonville Jaguars 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7

Starters from either team did not play, as Kyle Trask and John Wolford split reps for the Bucs and Mac Jones and C.J. Beathard split for the Jags. The former Patriots first-rounder threw for two touchdown passes and Trask threw a touchdown to Cody Thompson in the second quarter for the only touchdown of the game as the Jags won 20-7.
