On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies brought back right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker from the 15-day Injured List. Walker had been sidelined with right index finger inflammation since June 23, but he has been on a rehab assignment with Double-A Reading.
In his first ten starts for the Phillies this season, Walker posted a 3-3 record with a 5.60 ERA, recording 43 strikeouts over 53.0 innings pitched.
While on rehab with Reading, Walker made two starts and put up a combined 3.52 ERA (3 earned runs over 7.2 innings), striking out six batters and walking only one, and boasting a 0.91 WHIP (6 hits).
To make room for Walker on the 26-man roster, the Phillies optioned right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Marte, aged 29, had struggled and accumulated a 7.13 ERA (19 earned runs over 24.0 innings) in his 22 relief appearances for the Phillies this season.
Additionally, the Baltimore Orioles agreed to terms on a 2024 Minor League contract with RHP Matt Bowman on Thursday.
On Friday, the Boston Red Sox reinstated first baseman Triston Casas from the 60-Day IL and brought back right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from the COVID-19 Related IL. Meanwhile, Chase Shugart was optioned to the Worcester Red Sox, and Dominic Smith was designated for assignment.
The New York Yankees made moves by recalling Oswald Peraza and Will Warren from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Unfortunately, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was placed on the 10-day IL due to a left elbow sprain, and Enyel de los Santos was designated for assignment.
Finally, on Friday, the Yankees signed Tim Mayza to a Major League contract, and he was promptly added to the active roster.
