New York Giants Open 2024 Preseason With 14-3 Win Over Detroit Lions

By Stephen Ur –

The New York Giants hosted their first preseason game of 2024 against the Detroit Lions at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Thursday night. The Giants wouldn’t play any of their starters in this game.

After the first couple drives led to three-and-outs and an interception, running back Eric Gray scored the game’s first touchdown from 48 yards out with just over nine minutes left, giving them a 7-3 lead, their first of the game.

Gray would score the game’s second touchdown to make it a 14-3 game. That would turn out to be the final score as the defense held Detroit to 0-4 on fourth down.

With quarterback Daniel Jones not playing, it was Drew Lock and Tommy Devito who were under center for New York. Lock, who finished 4/10, left the game with an injury. Along with two rushing touchdowns, Gray also caught four passes for 46 passes.

The Giants will head to Houston for their Week 2 preseason game against the Texans from NRG Stadium next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
