Wednesday night, the Miami Marlins continued their first homestand of the second half of the season, facing off against the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of a three-game series. The Marlins emerged victorious with a 6-3 win over the Orioles.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, but the Marlins took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Josh Bell smashed his eleventh home run of the season, putting the Marlins ahead 1-0. Jesús Sánchez and Otto Lopez also scored, extending the Marlins’ lead to 3-0.
The Orioles fought back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs with the bases loaded. Colton Cowser hit his 15th double, bringing Anthony Santander, Ryan O’Hearn, and Heston Kjerstad across the plate, tying the game 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit his 14th double, sending Xavier Edwards and Nick Gordon home to extend the Marlins’ lead to 5-3. Later in the bottom of the seventh, Bryan De La Cruz hit a single, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score and further extending the Marlins’ lead to 6-3.
Edward Cabrera made his ninth start of the season, marking his first career start against the Baltimore Orioles. Cabrera pitched 5.1 innings, throwing 90 pitches with 54 strikes. He conceded three hits and three runs, walked four batters, and struck out six.
