By Tiffany Williams –

On Tuesday night, the Atlanta Braves faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth of seven scheduled meetings between the two teams this season. The Braves secured a 6-2 victory at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, marking their second consecutive win in the series and extending their winning streak to four games since their triumph over the Phillies on July 6.

Atlanta took an early lead with runs in the second inning, as Marcell Ozuna and Eddie Rosario crossed the plate to put the Braves up 2-0. In the top of the sixth, Adam Duvall’s three-run homer extended Atlanta’s lead to 5-0, with Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna adding to the score.

The Diamondbacks responded in the bottom of the sixth, with Jake McCarthy hitting an RBI triple to bring Gabriel Moreno home and narrowing the gap to 5-1. They added another run in the same inning, with McCarthy scoring to make it 5-2.

In the top of the eighth, Eli White’s RBI-triple, his first of the season, allowed Adam Duvall to score, bringing the Braves’ total to six runs.

Pitcher Zac Gallen, who had previously never lost to the Braves in his career, suffered his first defeat against Atlanta on Tuesday night. He threw 105 pitches, with 65 strikes, allowing seven hits, five runs, and one walk in 5.1 innings, while striking out four batters.

Chris Sale made his 17th start of the season and faced Arizona for the second time, pitching 100 total pitches, 67 of which were strikes. Sale struck out nine batters, allowed five hits, two runs, and walked three.

The Braves’ win ways against the Diamondbacks extends back to the season-opening series in April, where they swept the three-game set and have now won five consecutive games against Arizona dating back to last year.

Tuesday night’s victory allowed the Braves to match their longest winning streak against the Diamondbacks in franchise history. The team previously achieved six straight wins on two separate occasions, with the most recent occurrence in 2011-2012.

Additionally, the Braves now boast a 52-39 all-time record at Chase Field since its opening in 1998, including a strong 14-6 record since 2018.
