Baltimore Orioles Drop Series Finale Against Atlanta Braves

The Baltimore Orioles hosted the Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon at Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD. The Orioles took the first two matchups and were looking to sweep the Braves and extend their six-game winning streak. The Braves looked to snap their five-game losing streak and being swept by Baltimore.

Reynaldo Lopez went for the Braves, while Cole Irvin went for the Orioles. Lopez went six innings, allowed two hits, no runs, one walk, and eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, Irvin went 5 ⅓ innings, and allowed nine hits, four runs (three earned), one walk and eight strikeouts.

The Braves held a shutout for most of the game as they were up 4-0 in the middle of the seventh inning, which started with a two-run double by Marcell Ozuna in the first and ended with a RBI double by Orlando Arcia in the sixth.

The Orioles were able to break the shutout with a three-run homer by Kyle Stowers, after a double by Jordan Westburg and a walk to Cedric Mullins, as the Orioles cut the deficit to one.

The Braves then scored two insurance runs in the ninth as Michael Harris II scored on a wild pitch by Cionel Perez, and a RBI double by Matt Olson that scored Ozzie Albies home as the Braves got to a 6-3.

Braves closer Raisel Iglesias closed out the bottom of the ninth, while only allowing a hit which was a single to center by Mullins, as he got his 17th save of the season.

The Braves avoid the sweep and snap their losing streak, while snapping the Orioles winning streak with the 6-3 win.

The Braves will head back to Atlanta for a six-game homestead against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers. The series against the Rays will start on Friday at 7:10 pm with Chris Sale going on the mound for the Braves.

Meanwhile, The Orioles will stay in Baltimore for a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which will start at 7:05 pm on Friday when Kyle Brasish on the mound for the O’s.
