The Baltimore Orioles faced the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Monday evening for the opener of a four-game series. The Orioles were denied a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday when they lost 4-3. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have out five out of the last six games in their series against the Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Orioles called up prospect super utility man Connor Norby as he made his MLB debut at second base, as it makes the fourth Oriole prospect to make his debut in the major leagues this season, a list that includes top prospect Jackson Holiday. He filled in for Jorge Mateo who got hit by a swing in the on deck circle by Cedric Mullins in Sunday’s loss against the Rays.
Mullins himself took the night off as Colton Cowser took over center field. Earlier in the year in Baltimore, the Orioles played a two-game series due to the game on May
14 getting postponed until July 29, as they split the series, including a loss by the Orioles in the 10th inning on May 13.
Grayson Rodriguez started on the mound for the Orioles going 6 ⅔ innings, allowing two runs (one earned), seven hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. The Orioles offense would give him his sixth win of the season as the Orioles would hit four homers in the game, including two homers from Austin Hays. Cowser added a RBI double in the fourth as the Orioles would go on to win 7-2.
Vladimir Gueerro Jr. would have a solo homer of his own, while Dalton Varsho would have an RBI triple which amounted to the two runs that they scored.
The Orioles will continue their series on Tuesday night with the first pitch at 7:07 pm. Orioles ace Corbin Burnes will be going for Baltimore while Toronto has not announced a starter.
