Norfolk Tides Readying For Game 2 of 6 Against Worcester

By Tiffany Williams –

Norfolk Tide back at it Wednesday night on the road in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Tides are up north for their first six-game series of the season with the Worcester Red Sox. Tuesday night the Tides fell to Worcester 20-4. But for Tides Manager Buck Britton, today is another day. Pregame Britton said, “Yeah, I mean, those games, those games happen, you know, sometimes they say sometimes you’re the bug, sometimes you’re the windshield. It’s one of those, we’re just going to flush. It’s kind of the beauty of baseball is that there is tomorrow, play 150 of these things and, yeah, we’re looking forward to kind of getting some momentum back, especially, you know, game two of the six game series.”

When asked about the wind impact on the ball at Polar Park during batting practice, Britton said, “Yeah, no question. You know, it’s a unique park because it’s got the high wall and right, short field and right field. And with the wind, you just kind of never know. We’re used to that here. At Harbor Park, where we’re at, and the wind blows a ton, but it’s definitely unique, especially from stadium to stadium.”

Wednesday night Chayce McDermott will start for the Tides and in his last appearance for the Tides on May 15, against Lehigh Valley. he went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while not allowing a walk and striking out eight batters. McDermott currently ranks second in the International League in strikeouts with 57. When asked about McDermott starting Tuesday night, Britton said, “A guy who at the beginning of the year, had some ups and downs, some inconsistencies, but has been throwing the ball really well as of late, so hopefully he can go out there and pound the strike zone and give us a nice, clean start and let the bats kind of settle in and go to work.”

Jackson Holiday is in the lineup for the Tides Wednesday night at shortstop and batting first. When asked about Jackson pregame, Britton said, “Yeah, I mean, you know, a special talent, 20 years old, doing some of the things that he’s doing, already been to the big leagues. He’s going to be a special player, man, and we’re just kind of trying to help him, guide him through some adjustments he’s making and get him back up there as soon as we can.”

Wednesday night’s meeting between the Tides and WooSox starts at 6:05 p.m. at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.
