Norfolk Tides come out on top with 5-4 win against the Worcester Red Sox Wednesday night.
Chayce McDermott, the highest-ranked pitching prospect in the Orioles minor league system, started at the bump for Norfolk, going five innings, throwing 93 and 55 were strikes. McDermott allowed five hits and three runs. He walked just one batter and struck out ten.
Norfolk earned Their first and second runs in the top of the first with Jackson Holliday and Connor Norby, then Nick Sogard and Nathan Hickey scored for Worcester in the bottom of the first to tie the game 2-2, but in the top of the third Jackson Holliday and Connor Norby scored again to extend Norfolks lead to 4-2.
Nick Sogard hit his sixth homer of the season in the bottom of the third, and then Bobby Dalbec hit his sixth homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 4-4. But top of the ninth Connor Norby connected with an 84 mph changeup from Jorge Benitez, recording his ninth homer of the season.
With his ninth inning homer Norby extended his hitting streak to ten games, and has had ten runs in his last games.
Naoyuki Uwasawa started at the bump for Worcester and went three innings throwing 71 pitches and 34 were strikes. Uwasawa gave up four hits, four runs, walked three and struck out just three.
The Tides and WooSox will be back on the diamond Thursday at 12:05 p.m.
