After grabbing the reigning Heisman winner Jaden Daniels with the second overall pick in night one. Washington got real busy with a trade and in total drafting five players on night two.
The first player to join Daniels in the nation’s capital was defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton from Illinois. Washington then struck a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in which they received the 40th, 78th, and 152nd.
The Commanders in return got the 50th and 53rd and the 161st . With those 50th and 53rd selections Washington drafted Mike Sainristil from Michigan at number 50. Sainristil is the third Michigan Wolverine to be drafted so far during this try.
Ben Sinnott, a tight end from Kansas State was drafted with the 53rd. Sinnott was the first Kansas State player drafted and the first out of the only two to get drafted before rounds four, five, six, and seven.
Sainristil and Sinnott were the only round two picks made by the Commanders.
In Round 3 Washington went Offensive Guard selecting Brandon Coleman from TCU. Coleman was the 67th overall selection and the only Horned Frog drafted. TCU hopes to get that number by tomorrow night after the last day of the NFL.
The Commanders held the last pick of the night which they used on Luke McCaffrey. McCaffrey is the young brother of the reigning rushing champ Christian McCaffrey and son of Ed McCaffrey who also played in the NFL.
The Rice product is the only player out of Rice to get selected during the draft process.
The Commanders have a small day tomorrow with only three picks in total between rounds 4-7 especially with two round five selections.
