The Mystics left 2023 seventh overall in the league and then were swept by the New York Liberty. On top of that some offseason losses in Ella Della Donne and Natasha Cloud.
The Mystics came into the draft with the sixth overall selection in round one and two other selections looking to make a splash and rebuild.
That splash began with Aaliyah Edwards who was drafted with that sixth overall selection. The UConn product now heads to the nation’s capital after playing four seasons with the Huskies.
Edwards during press conferences spoke on achieving her dream of playing in the WNBA saying “Oh, my gosh, just to have a dream like this and to actually walk through it, I said this out there, it’s just amazing. A lot of people have dreams, but a lot of people aren’t able to achieve it.”
Joining Edwards is Kaylynne Truong who was drafted 21st overall. The Guard is going to Washington D.C after spending her college career in Washington playing five seasons with Gonzaga.
The Mystics then ended their 2024 draft outing with the 30th pick which they used on Nastja Classens out of Belgium. Classens is the first and only international player selected by the Mystics in this draft.
The Mystics begin their preseason in Atlanta facing the Dream on May 4 and begin the regular season at home on May 14 versus the New York Liberty.
