After losing his coaching debut Thursday night versus the Utah Jazz interim head coach Brian Keefe won his first game as the interim coach.
Washington traveled to Detroit to face the Pistons in a battle of the league’s worst records. The Wizards prevailed, grabbing their eighth win of the season.
Kyle Kuzma led the way with 30 points, six rebounds, and four assists. All five Wizards starters ended the night in double figures. Jordan Poole scored 17 points, while teammate Daniel Gafford posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Tyus Jones was one assist shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine assists.
Deni Avdija scored 10 points rounding out the starters while Marvin Bagley came off the bench for Washington with 13 points and eight rebounds. Bagley played his old team in Detroit after being traded from the Pistons to Washington a few weeks back.
For Detroit Bojan Bogdanovic scored 30 points matching Kuzma for the game high. The Pistons also had two players with double-doubles, Cade Cunningham who finished with 20 points and 12 assists along with Jalen Duren who had 10 points to go along with 18 rebounds.
Washington snapped a six game losing streak with the win and now can attempt to win two in a row with a matchup on Monday January 29 versus the San Antonio Spurs. The game is scheduled to start at 8:00PM.
