SEC Matchup South Carolina Against Georgia

By Darryl Harding Sr

Heated rivals Georgia Bulldogs battled the South Carolina Gamecocks in what would be a must win SEC interleague matchup. Each team possessing a two and one Conference record Georgia traveled to Columbia, South Carolina.

Coming off of a game-winning shot by Jacobi Wright, that lifted the Gamecocks to a 14-2 record on the season, South Carolina has also benefited from excellent play by BJ Mack, averaging 13 points and five rebounds per game. Just behind with an impressive record of 12-4 the Georgia Bulldogs have thrived off of strong play by Jabri Abdur-Rahim.

Constant lead changes and a competitiveness that mirrored the likes of heavyweight battles between Frasier and Ali, these two teams combatted each other fervently throughout the game. Desperately defending a perfect home record, South Carolina resiliently tried to stave off the Bulldogs.

With over 60 free throws combined, foul shots we’re at a premium and of the utmost importance. Falling short with 15 missed from the stripe, South Carolina relinquished the lead late in the second half.

The tenacity of the Georgia Bulldogs outlasted the toughness of South Carolina. With significant  contribution from Silas Demary Jr. with 15 points, two blocks and two steals, the Bulldogs handed the Gamecocks their first home loss with the score of 74 to 69.

Now tied for third in SEC Conference standings with Tennessee, Georgia goes on the road to face 8th ranked Kentucky, on Saturday January 20th at 6:00pm. South Carolina will try to right the ship traveling to Arkansas on Saturday January 20th as well at 1:00 p.m.
