Georgia Southern took on Ohio in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on the campus of Coastal Carolina University on Saturday afternoon. This was one of the first bowls played to kick off the 2023 bowl season.
The lone score of the first quarter was a 27-yard field goal from Ohio kicker Gianni Spectic. The Bobcats would score the game’s touchdown at the 12:22 mark of the first half as Rickey Hunt took it in from two yards out. Hunt would later haul in a pass from quarterback Parker Navarro for an 18-yard touchdown, and Ohio led 17-0 with 3:16 left in the half.
A second field goal from Spectic made it a 20-0 game at halftime. Hunt’s third touchdown of the game, second on the ground, came at the 11:46 mark of the third quarter, extending Ohio’s lead to 27-0.
Georgia Southern finally got on the board, but Hunt would score his fourth touchdown of the day, a 40-yard run, with 2:04 left in the third, and Ohio’s lead was now 34-7.
Georgia Southern scored the next 14 points at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth to close it to a 34-21 game, but Hunt’s fifth touchdown of the game put it away for Ohio, who won the Myrtle Beach Bowl by a final score of 41-21. Georgia Southern finishes their season with a 6-7 record.
