Atlanta Braves Clinch Sixth Consecutive NL East Title

By Stephen Ur

The Atlanta Braves were in Philadelphia on Wednesday night to take on the Phillies. A win would clinch them their sixth consecutive National League East title.

Austin Riley got things started for the Braves with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. The Phillies got one back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Stott.

The Braves would add runs in both the third and fourth innings, a sacrifice fly from Riley and an RBI double from Pillar, and pitching closed out the 4-1 victory. The Braves clinched their sixth consecutive NL East title with the win.

Pitcher Spencer Strider also earned his MLB-leading 17th win of the season. He went 7.0 IP, allowing four hits and the lone run for the Phillies in the game while also striking out nine.

Atlanta will be off tomorrow before starting a weekend series in South Florida against the Miami Marlins. First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.
