Friday night at State Farm Arena, the Hawks hosted the 76ers for their-ever home tournament night contest, part of the league’s inaugural in-season tournament. The Hawks are competing in East Group A, and with Friday night’s 126-116 loss, they are now 1-1.
Trae Young played 37 minutes in Friday night’s loss and put 22 points on the board. Young finished the night with two defensive rebounds, 13 assists, and one steal, which extended his steal streak to a career-long 12 straight regular season games. This season, Young is the only player in the league, averaging at least 20.0 ppg, 10.0 apg, and 1.5 spg. Young also tallied his 176th career double-double and 175th career point/assist double-double and has notched his 133rd career 20-point/10-assist outing in tonight’s game, passing Bob Cousy for the 15th-most such games in NBA history.
Jalen Johnson played 36 minutes Friday night pouring in 18 points for the Hawks with one offensive rebound, nine defensive rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks which are the second-most blocks in a single game in his career. Ten of Johnson’s eighteen points came in the first half, and seven of his ten rebounds were also in the first half.
Capela and Bey both finished the night with 17 points. Capela had eight offensive rebounds, three defensive rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block, while Bey had three offensive rebounds, four defensive rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Bogdan Bogdanovic and Dejounte Murray both finished the night with 13 points. Murray had one defensive rebound, three assists, and one steal, while Bogdanovic had two defensive rebounds, three assists, and three thefts. It was Bogdanovic’s third game this season, all off the bench with at least three thefts.
Up next for the Hawks is another home tournament night match on Tuesday, November 21, against the Indiana Pacers.
