After winning their last four, the Atlanta Hawks Monday night were on the road at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, OK for the first of two contests this season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The last meeting between these two teams at the Paycom Center was January 25, 2023, and Atlanta won that contest 137-132. But tonight, Atlanta took the L, losing 117-126 to the Thunder.
Oklahoma product Trae Young played 36 minutes in Monday night’s loss with 22 points, four rebounds, and eleven assists. Young extended his steal streak to eight straight regular season games and is two such games away from tying his career-long steal streak (10, 2x). Tonight’s double-double was the 173rd of Young’s career, and he tied Dominique Wilkins for the 11th-most double-doubles in franchise history.
Dejounte Murray in Monday night’s loss played 33 minutes, putting 29 points on the board with four rebounds and six assists. Murray now starts the regular season recording four games with 20 or more points, including 41 points he put on the board against the Timberwolves on October 30.
Bogdan Bogdanovi Monday night played 27 minutes and put 17 points on the board for Atlanta with two rebounds and one assist. Bogdanovi, with his first made three-pointer of the game, has broken a tie with Mike Bibby (475 3FGM) for the ninth-most triples in franchise history. Bogdanovic also extended his steal streak to eight straight regular season games and is four such games from tying his career-long theft streak of 12.
Saddiq Bey finished Monday night with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
Jalen Johnson finished the night with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. With his 12th board of the game, Johnson has set a new career-high for rebounds in a single game, which previously was 11, 3x.
Hunter, Capela, and Okongwu combined put 21 points on the board.
Next up for the Hawks is a meeting with Orlando in Mexico City in Arena on Thursday night at 9:30 p.m. Thursday night’s contest between these two Southeast Division teams will be the first of four regular season contests. Last season, Atlanta took the regular season series 3-1 behind two wins at State Farm Arena and one at the Amway Center.
