The Atlanta Falcons hosted the Minnesota Vikings at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons were coming off a loss against the Tennessee Titans in which rookie quarterback Will Levis threw four touchdown passes. Meanwhile, the Vikings played their first game without Kirk Cousins, who was lost for the season last week to a torn achilles.
Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo gave them a 3-0 with 7:06 left in the first with a 52-yard field goal. The Vikings got down to the Falcons’ one yard line, but were forced to settle for a 19-yard field goal from Greg Joseph to tie the game at 3 with 2:20 left in the quarter.
56 seconds into the second quarter, Calais Campbell sacked Joshua Dobbs, who stepped in for Daren Hall, who ended the day with a concussion, in the end zone for a safety, giving the Falcons a 5-3 lead. Koo’s second field goal, this one from 43 yards out, extended Atlanta’s lead to 8-3.
After Koo’s third field goal made it an 11-3 game, Dobbs threw a touchdown to Madison, making the score 11-10 at halftime.
After a back and forth second half, Tyler Aligier rushed for a five-yard score with 2:08 left to give the Falcons a 28-24 lead. Dobbs then led the Vikings down the field, including converting on a fourth down, and threw a touchdown to Brandon Powell with 22 seconds left. That would ultimately give the Vikings the 31-28 win. The loss for Atlanta is their second in a row.
They will be on the road next week to face the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff for that game is 4:05 p.m. ET.
