Navy Grabs 27-24 Win Against North Texas

At the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday, the Midshipman hosted the University of North Texas Mean Green. This was just the second matchup ever between Navy and North Texas on the gridiron and the first as American Athletic Conference foes. 

In the first meeting between the Midshipmen and North Texas, Navy won 74-62 on Nov 10, 2007 in Denton. At the time, it was the most points scored in a regulation game in FBS history.

Today, Navy grabbed a 27-24 win and are now 2-0 against North Texas.

The first scoring drive of the game for North Texas was in the first quarter, was 9 plays, 68 yards and Noah Rauschenberg made a 42 yard field goal to get Texas out front 3-0. 

The first scoring drive of the game for Navy was in the second quarter and was 10 plays, 80 yards and Alex Tecza recorded his first rushing touchdown of the game. The point after attempt by Nathan Kirkwood was good to put Navy on top 3-7.

The second scoring drive of the game for North Texas was in the second quarter with 2:42 remaining on the clock and was 2 plays, 80 yards and then Chandler Rogers recorded the first rushing touchdown of the game for NT. The point after attempt by Noah Rauschenberg was good for North Texas to get out front 10-7.

The second scoring drive of the game for Navy was in the second quarter with 43 seconds on the clock and was eight plays, 75 yards and then Tai Lavatai connected with Nathan Kent to get his first passing touchdown of the game and put the Midshipmen on top 10-13.

After a scoring drive of 12 plays and 75 yards in the third quarter with 8:26 on the clock Anton Hall recorded the second touchdown of the game for the Midshipmen.  The point after attempt by Nathan Kirkwood was good and Navy was on top 10-20.

In the fourth quarter with 13:01 on the clock and after 14 plays, 93 yards, Chandler Rogers connected with Ja’Mori Maclin to record his first passing touchdown of the game. The point after attempt by Noah Rauschenberg made it a 17-20 game with Navy ahead by only three. But with  7:07 on the clock and after just 1 play and 21 yards, Alex Tecza recorded his second touchdown of the game for Navy. The point after attempt by Nathan Kirkwood put Navy out front 17-24. With just 05:23 on the clock in the fourth quarter and and after eight plays and 73 yards, Ayo Adeyi recorded a rushing touchdown for North Texas and the point after attempt by Noah Rauschenberg was good to make it a 24-27 game.

Navy offense rushed for 331 yards on the day, led by Tecza and Horvath, who ran for 88 yards and a touchdown in a quarter and a half.  Junior fullback Daba Fofana chipped in with 55 yards.

Next up for Navy is trip to Charlotte next Saturday for a 2 pm kick on ESPN+. The game is sold out.
