Commanders Lose First Game Of The Season 37-3

The Washington Commanders hosted the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon and took their first loss of the season. Washington now holds a record of 3-4 all time versus Buffalo at home.

Buffalo was dominant on defense with nine sacks, four interceptions, one fumble, and a touchdown off of one of the interceptions.

Sam Howell lost his first loss as a starter after going 3-0 dating back to last season to begin his career.

“Yeah, just got to be better. You know, there’s a lot of things, obviously it starts with me and I got to take better care of the football. Do a better job just leading my offense. Obviously a lot of things didn’t go right today and it starts with me.” Howell said postgame.

Bills kicker Tyler Bass opened up the scoring with a field goal to give Buffalo a 3-0 lead. Josh Allen later in the first quarter threw his only passing touchdown of the to Gabe Davis for 35 yards.

Allen had 218 passing yards on the day while that was Gabe Davis’ only catch of the day. Stefon Diggs was the Bills leading receiver with eight catches for 111 yards.

In the second quarter up 10-0 Tyler Bass hit two more field goals to bring the score to 16-0 at halftime.

Buffalo then scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. First Josh Allen had a 10 yard rushing touchdown which gave him two total touchdowns.

30 seconds later Bills defensive end A.J Epenesa took an interception 32 yards into the end zone to give Buffalo a 30-0 lead.

Latavius Murray then ran for the final touchdown scored by the Bills giving them a 37-0 lead.

Washington kicker Joey Slye hit a field goal in the final minutes of the fourth to make sure the Commanders weren’t shutout.

Commanders Head coach Ron Rivera was asked what he told the players after a tough loss and told the media

“We’ll tell them it’s football. That’s just the way it is. Then you got to learn from it. What you will really be judged on is how you handle what happened today. Did we learn from it? Did we get better? Did we improve? Did we do things that give ourselves a chance to win next week?”

The Commanders will travel to Philadelphia next week to take on the Eagles. The game will be on Sunday October 1 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00PM EST.
