Atlanta Braves Reach 100 Win Mark As They Split Double-Header

The Atlanta Braves played the final two games of a four game series against the Washington Nationals. Going into Sunday Atlanta led the series 2-0 with 99 wins which is the most in the MLB.

In game one of two Atlanta struck first with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning hit by Kevin Pillar which scored Sean Murphy. 

Washington responded quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. First Jacob Young hit a single that scored Luis Garcia and then C.J Abrams hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jake Alu. Garcia got on base hitting a lead off single while Alu followed Garcia with a double to get on base.

There wasn’t any scoring between the third and fifth inning. The scoring drought ended in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jacob Young hit his second RBI of the day, this time hitting a double that scored Jake Alu.

Atlanta went down 3-1 and in the top of the ninth Sean Murphy hit a homerun that sailed 398 feet to bring the Braves within one run. Unfortunately for Atlanta that was the last run scored giving Atlanta their 56th loss of the season.

Game two started differently then game one with Washington striking first in the bottom of the third inning. 

Keibert Ruiz hit a double that scored C.J Abrams and Lane Thomas. Both Abrams and Thomas got on base after hitting a single.

After hitting two RBIs Luis Garcia hit a single which scored Ruiz giving the Nationals a 3-0 lead.

The Braves responded immediately with Matt Olson hitting a double and after a throwing error scored Austin Riley. Riley the batter before Olson Walker to get on base.

After back to back strikeouts by the Braves Orlando Arcia hit a double that scored Matt Olson. The next batter Kevin Pillar then hit a homerun that sailed 409 feet and gave Atlanta a 4-3 lead.

Two innings later in the top of the sixth Forrest Wall hit a homerun 366 feet which scored him and Arcia who walked to get on base.

The very next inning down 6-3 Luis Garcia shortened the lead from three to two after he hit a homerun of his own 369 feet.

In the top of the seventh after Washington shortened the lead Atlanta extended it after Arcia hit a single that scored both Austin Riley and Matt Olson. Riley got on base after a walk and Olson hit a single.

The Braves were up 8-4 after the top of the seventh and held that lead to close out the game.  The Braves won 8-5 after Lane Thomas hit a homer in the bottom of the ninth in a last effort to win for the Nationals.

Atlanta secured their 100th win of the regular season and won the series against Washington 3-1. The Braves now travel to Chicago to take on the Cubs in a three game series from Tuesday through Thursday.

First pitch for all three games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are scheduled for 7:20PM.
