The Georgetown Hoyas had their season and home opener against the Marist Red Foxes. The Hoyas came out swinging and kept it going all game as they won 49-7.
Georgetown started early, scoring in the first quarter from a Joshua Stakely 42 yard rushing touchdown. This was the only touchdown from Stakely on the day.
Marist responded with a touchdown of their own. Their lone touchdown of the game came in the first quarter on a Tristan Shannon three yard run.
The game didn’t stay tied at seven for long as Georgetown scored their second touchdown of the first quarter with a Naieem Kearney two yard rushing touchdown.
The Hoyas quarterback Tyler Knoop was responsible for the next three Georgetown touchdowns. In the second quarter Knoop threw a 13 yard touchdown to Isaiah Grimes which brought the score to 21-7 at the half.
Knoop then threw another passing touchdown in the third quarter to Cam Pygatt. After throwing two touchdowns Knoop scored his third touchdown on the ground rushing 20 yards for his final score of the game.
Heading into the fourth quarter up 35-7 Naieem Kearney found the endzone for his second rushing touchdown of the day on another two yard run.
The Final score came in the final minutes of the game when Georgetown defensive back Sherman Steptoe II returned an interception 51 yards for the Hoyas first defensive touchdown of the season.
The Hoyas rolled to a 1-0 start to the season as they look to once again defend their home when they take on Sacred Heart next Saturday with a chance to improve to 2-0.
