During the Commander’s last preseason outing that resulted in a win against the Baltimore Ravens a Second Round Rookie made a big play during the second quarter.

Jartavius Martin came up with a big time interception at about the seven minute mark in quarter number two and then proceeded to return the interception for 59 yards.

“It was second and three and even though I got an outside release, I kept running and knew I had to make a play on the ball.” Martin said postgame.

For some people this might be the first time Martin’s name has come across their radar and leaves them wondering who Jartavius Martin is?

For those unfamiliar, Martin was chosen 47th overall in the second round by the Washington Commanders.

The second rounder is a defensive back from the University of Illinois. At Illinois Martin played 55 games from 2018 to 2022, starting 28 of those 55 games. In those games Martin logged 222 total tackles, 30 pass breakups, seven interceptions, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

The Lehigh Acres, Florida native also at Illinois earned All-Big Ten second team honors by the media and All-Big Ten third team honors by coaches during his senior season.

Also during his senior season Martin led Illinois in solo tackles with 51 and had the fourth highest grade in the nation among cornerbacks with a 90.4 rating according to Pro Football Focus.

Along with the high tackle rating Martin was 22nd in the nation and third in the Big Ten in passes defended during the 2022 college football season with 14.

Martin had a pass defended on Monday Night against Baltimore to go along with two tackles and that big interception.

The week before against Cleavalnd Martin logged four tackles in what was his NFL and Preseason debut.

Martin, a man who goes by Quan loves cookies and cream ice cream, and can’t live without music made some key plays against Baltimore and is definitely someone to keep an eye out for.

Martin and the Commanders will suit up for their final preseason game on Saturday August 26 at 6:00 PM EST.
