The Washington Commanders suited up for their second preseason game versus the Baltimore Ravens. This was Washington’s first home preseason game of the year.
Baltimore coming in has a 24 game win streak in preseason games while Washington comes in after picking up a win last week against the Cleveland Browns.
Baltimore showed why they are on a current win streak scoring first with a Zay Flowers touchdown from Ravens Quarterback Josh Johnson. The Ravens drive spanned just under three minutes as rookie Zay Flowers caught his first touchdown of the preseason.
Washington saw Sam Howell get the start and his first drive ended in a field goal. Joey Slye hit a 21 yard field goal which brought the score to 7-3.
After two scoring drives both teams had drives that ended in punts. The Ravens third offensive drive ended in an interception on a Josh Johnson deep ball. The interception made by Jartavius Martin was returned 59 yards.
The Commanders used the great field advantage and traveled 45 yards to the end zone which ended in a Antonio Gibson 9 yard receiving touchdown. This gave Washington a 10-7 lead.
Baltimore responded immediately with Two Josh Johnson deep balls resulting in a 33 yard completion and a pass interference call. From there the Ravens scored on a Tylan Wallace 7 yard receiving touchdown from Josh Johnson.
Sam Howell was then put into a two minute drill down 14-10. Howell and the Commander offense ended up successful with their two minute drill attempt as Dyami Brown caught an 11 yard touchdown from Howell.
Coming out the half Sam Howell was replaced by Jacoby Brissett. Howell in one half of action threw for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Rookie Tight End Travis Vokolek gave the Ravens the push to keep their win streak alive as he caught two touchdowns in the second half.
The first Vokolek touchdown came at the 7 minute mark in the third quarter bringing the score to 21-17. The second came after a 49 yard Joey Slye field goal with 14 minutes left in the fourth giving Baltimore a 28-20 lead.
Jake Fromm came in as the third Commanders quarterback to enter the game and lead Washington down the field with a touchdown drive. The drive ended in a Jaret Patterson receiving touchdown. A Two Point conversion attempt was unsuccessful which gave the Ravens a two point lead.
The Ravens drive ended in a punt and gave Washington the ball on their own 9 yard line with 2:54 left on the clock.
Jake Fromm led a drive that ended in a Joey Slye 49 yard field goal giving the Commanders a 29-28 lead with 10 seconds left. Washington then denied the Hail Mary attempt to give the Commanders their second preseason win.
The Commanders are now 2-0 as Baltimore falls to 1-1 taking their first loss since 2015. Washington will stay at home and play the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday August 26 with kickoff scheduled for 6:05 PM EST.
